Thomas Texeira

Welcome to the CO ALAS Membership Spotlight. Each month we introduce you to one of our many CO-ALAS members. Let’s see what they are doing and what’s on their mind!

This month we are featuring Thomas Texeira, Director of Human Resources for the Thompson School District. Thomas shares his professional career and current bio below. You can read the diverse experiences that have led to his various leadership roles. One of our shining stars!
Career Highlights & Education

Thomas Joseph Texeira was born and raised in Stockton, California. He was very fortunate growing up with six sisters and two mothers that supported and lifted him up at every stage of life.

After fumbling around in college for a few years, his high school football coach inspired him to become a teacher, and he has spent the rest of his career supporting students and providing inspiration whenever he can. You could say that Education actually found him, because over the course of his career as a teacher, coach and administrator, he looks back fondly over all of the years he has spent in schools and is humbled and prideful about all of the lives he has touched and all of the inspiration that others have provided for him.

For over 25+ years he has been honored to be a Middle School and High School CTE and Math teacher, School Administrator and currently a Director in Human Resources for the Thompson School District. Coaching football and being a LULAC sponsor have always been the place where he feels most at home and most comfortable helping students find themselves.

He and his wife are very proud of their 6 kids and 2 grandkids. As a first generation college graduate, their little family has 7 B.A.s, 2 M.A.s and still counting. His family continues to inspire him and are the reason that he always strives to do good in this world. Life is good!

What is exciting about my job?

In my position at the human resources department, I get to recruit, onboard and train all staff of the district. One of my primary duties is to continually improve the working conditions and the job satisfaction for all employees at the district and it is an honor to make sure that people are taken care of and are treated well.

Words from a consejero/a

Always remember that someone is watching you. Maybe, so that they can emulate you, maybe so that they can mock you, either way, remember that you should always shine!

Advice you would give a new school leader?

Have fun, believe in yourself and always do what's right for your students and community. It's an honor to be a leader of any education system, so remind yourself of that, especially when the tough tasks are in front of you.

If you catch me outside the office, you'll find...

...me hanging out with my family, working on my cars and having a good time!

How does CO-ALAS add value?

CO-ALAS has been an inspirational organization to me over the years. The people I've met through the job fairs, conferences and networking events have inspired me to be better, to improve the systems for all Latinos, and to mentor those that will be the next generation.
