About the Superintendent Role in DPS 
The superintendent will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Denver Public Schools. The role reports  directly to the Board of Education. The superintendent for DPS will enter the district at a critical time as  the district works to recover from a pandemic, deepen its equity work on behalf of students, and ensure a  strong system of schools ready to meet the needs of every student, in every neighborhood.

The Arriba-Flagler CSD #20, Flagler, Colorado, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent.  The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2021.

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the board of education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 159
Location: 125 miles southeast of Denver

The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board has identified the following desired characteristics:

  • Leader – A leader with high morals and ethical standards.  An honest, humble leader.   A leader with a strong work ethic and is “thick skinned”.  An educator who knows Colorado school finance and is efficient in the management of school resources. A person who knows agriculture and understands the rural community.  Superintendent experience is preferred.    
  • Communicator – A leader with a positive personality who is visible both in the schools and greater community.  A person with a passion for students.  A leader who is always connecting with the changing stakeholders.  A person with strong organizational skills who can multi-task.  
  • Educator – AA person who has a working knowledge of education.  A leader with classroom experience who listens to the classroom teacher and understands parenting and family life.  An educator whose passion for learning is rooted in the needs of all children.

Salary:

The board of education is offering a salary of $80,000 to $90,000 per annum based on qualifications, experience and interview results, with a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, vacation, and dues for membership in the Colorado Association of School Executives are paid by the district.
